Now What?

Today, both Spurs men and women lost. The men have lost 15 of the 29 games they've played, the women have lost 9 of 16. Neither of these returns is acceptable.

I don't tend to get involved in the 'Levy Out' stuff. I remember what it was like in the early 2000s. (I don't quite remember that much of the '90s, thank you very much.) I'm still not entirely convinced Daniel Levy is the reason why both teams seem so punchless at the moment. Maybe I'm just being stubborn and naive, because things are eerily similar in both the men's and women's first teams. Today's defeats are part of a repeating pattern.

Spurs Not Best of the Rest in WSL

In the WSL, it has become sort of accepted that, right now, there are 6-8 matches Spurs, Brighton et al. cannot win. That means you need to win, or at least get a point, in the rest. As Robert Vilahamn pointed out before today's game, a win would have put Tottenham Hotspur women above their opponents. Instead, his team drew a blank again. Vilahamn is under growing pressure in a season where a number of his peers have lost their jobs.

Angeball Has Disappeared

As for the men... it was not a terrible display overall, but there was zero creativity. Bernd Leno in the Fulham goals has had more difficult training sessions. With the lack of attacking threat from Spurs you always felt there was a chance for Fulham to grab the win against a defence that is always vulnerable. We didn't have the enormous gaps in behind that come when Porro plays, Djed Spence can actually defend, but without any of Cristian Romero, Micky Van de Ven or Kevin Danso on the pitch things fell apart again.

Ange in? Ange out? Does it matter? Postecoglou's team selection today was weird - where was Van de Ven after his hour on Thursday? - and his stubbornness leaves him open to immense criticism. There is isn't even much 'Angeball' anymore. It's mostly just a mess.

Last year the women had their historic FA Cup run, but that isn't happening this time around. For the men it's Europa League or bust. I don't know what the path forward is at the moment, but today feels like a real low point. Let's hope it is the bottom of the market...
