Beth England put in a captain's performance last night and helped Tottenham win over Enfield councillors and secure permission for a new women's training centre and academy. The Spurs skipper addressed councillors on the planning committee on Tuesday night, the Enfield Dispatch reported.

The debate over the site in Whitewebbs Park has gone on for years, but has now received the support of all seven Labour members of the comittee. The Conservative Councillors voted against and many local residents voiced their concerns. However, England told the committee: “This facility would provide our professional squad and local women and girls with the same opportunities to succeed as our male counterparts... We need this facility to compete with the very best teams […] this is a once in a generation opportunity.”

England also told those in attendance:“I want to see the next generation of WSL [Women’s Super League] stars coming to Enfield.”

Spurs Executive Director Director Donna Cullan also spoke in fanour of the plans, telling councillors: "We have been a good neighbour for Enfield for many years." Cullen added that“Our men’s training centre is right next door and is acknowledged as one of the best in the world. We show immense responsibility for the environment, most of the time exceeding what we are expected to do.

The site will now go ahead. It will cover 16 hectares of what was previously a golf course.

It's been a busy 24 hours for Bethany England, who also met the King this morning!
