After a month off, Spurs Women take on Leicester City in the WSL on Sunday, 19th January 2025. This is a crucial fixture as both teams look to kick on for the second half of the season, with the visitors looking to fight off relegation.
Ahead of the game, and following the recent postponement of his team's FA Cup tie, Spurs boss Robert Vilahamn was positive and excited to get back to business. "It's just going to be nice to start playing again," he said.
He noted the importance of the fixture:
If you win that game, you have a good step in the table to make sure you have a distance to the teams under as well, and self confidence wise, it's also good to start with a win, because we have a lot of games now in the first three weeks so, and the result is important.
Is New Goalkeeper Ready?
Vilahamn was clearly excited by the arrival of new goalkeeper Lize Kop. He said "she's really good in the box, she's really good with reactions, and she's actually really good with her feet as well." However, he refused to be drawn on whether she will start the game against the side she has just left. (My guess is she will.)
The Spurs manager also revealed that the club had been chasing the Kop for a while:
She's been on the radar for a long time, and I'm very happy that we could sign her now.
Beth England's Form
When it comes to the forward line, Vilahamn feels he has options too."Bethany's last month was brilliant," he said, adding that "she was great in the link up. She was great in the press." He said both England and Martha Thomas "are really high quality strikers," despite that later's current poor goalscoring form.
Tottenham vs Leicester Prediction
On paper, Spurs are the better side and should win this game. However, we saw how difficult Leicester made things during last season's FA Cup semi-final. After a few weeks without a game, the side could be rusty so this probably won't be a straightforward one. The game is live on the BBC iPlayer in the UK.
