In an up-and-down season, Wednesday's League Cup defeat to West Ham was very much a low point. After a confident start and a goal from Martha Thomas, Spurs failed to capitalise by getting the second goal.
It was an all too familiar story.
Robert Vilahamn made it clear in his pre-match press conference that he was rather frustrated with it. The Tottenham boss said his side "didn't create enough chances" against Leicester last time out in the WSL and was not happy with how they deteriorated against West Ham.
He is, therefore, probably relieved to be facing one of the few opponents that his team has managed to score multiple goals against. (Spurs won 4-0 at Brisbane Road on the opening day of the season.) Vilahamn insisted it's "not an easy away game", noting the Eagle's stubborn performance against Arsenal. However, anything other than a convincing victory would be considered a failure.
No New Injuries for Tottenham
Vilahamn explained that there are no new injuries amongst his squad. It will be interesting to see if he makes some changes though, given the two stuttering performances since Christmas break.
Charlotte Grant appears regularly as a sub, but is surely worth a start once in a while? Meanwhile, Thomas and Bethany England have shown they can play together and will have some confidence after finally getting back on the score sheet. Fitting in Haley Raso, Jessica Naz alongside those two, as well as Maite Oroz in midfield, is a tough ask though.
Whatever combination take the field, Spurs have got to overcome their second goal syndrome.
